Introducing your YTB Golf Head Pro: Kenny Knox

Check back in the coming weeks for his brand new column running bi-weekly! The first series, The Basic Fundamentals of Golf, is sure to be full of motivating and exciting information to help you improve your golf game!

Kenny Knox was introduced to the game of golf by his father at age 9, then honed his skills by playing with his brother, mother, and friends at the Country Club of Columbus in Columbus, Georgia. By age 12, he was shooting par and winning his age division in numerous Junior Golf tournaments.

As a teenager, he also caddied for three years in the PGA Tour event held at Green Island Country Club, where he would later win his third PGA Tour event himself. As a sophomore at Columbus High School, Kenny was a member of the state championship team and individually finished third.

Kenny's family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and he won many matches during his two years at Leon High School as well as earning a full golf scholarship to Florida State University. In his sophomore year at F.S.U., Kenny's father passed away and the scholarship enabled him to complete his education. He won numerous collegiate events and earned All-American status during his senior year.

Kenny has worked with many of the world's finest golf instructors. His favorite golf courses are Pinehurst (No. 2) and Muirfield Village. Some day he would like to play Pine Valley in New Jersey and Seminole in Florida.

His heroes are all heroines: his mother, wife (Karen) and daughter (Michelle), are the women in his life. His favorite entertainer is Russell Crowe; favorite movies are "Braveheart" and "Gladiator;" favorite athlete is John Smoltz; favorite foods are grilled fish and anything with lots of vegetables; and favorite books are The 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry, The Sacred Journey by David Cook, and The Bible.

Kenny has 3 PGA Tour victories to his credit: 1986 Honda Classic, 1987 Hardees Classic, and 1990 Buick Southern Open

In 1989 at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, S. Carolina, Kenny tied the PGA Tour all-time putting record for the fewest on 18 holes with 18 putts, and for many years, he held the 72 hole record with 93 putts. David Frost broke that record with 92 putts on the same course.

In 1991, Kenny went head to head with John Daly in the final round of the PGA Championship at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana. John won that battle and launched his illustrious career.

A back injury in 1992 eventually led to a decade away from competitive golf. During that time, Kenny created a synthetic turf business, installing greens and developing short game facilities all over the U.S. A few years before turning 50, Kenny recommitted to competition and began preparing for the PGA Champions Tour. He had minimal success in 41 events on the Champions Tour from Fall 2006 through 2008, and because of the decade he missed, he was too far down the money list for exempt status. The weekly grind to try and qualify for an event is not any fun at all, so Kenny is moving on to other golf related businesses. Kenny is very involved with his wife's health ministry. Karen, who caddied for Kenny many years, has authored a book, Forget the Die-its ~ Learn to LIVE-it! Now, Kenny "caddies" for her as she travels to speaking engagements around the country! One of their favorite events is the Wellness & Golf Weekends they have at their home in north Florida where couples or individuals spend the weekend and experience Karen's health seminar. They even receive personalized golf instruction with Kenny. (For more information go to www.learntoliveit.com.)
